I have been neglecting this blog for a couple of weeks. But since I am not in the mood to clean my dinner mess up right now, and Ashkii is out helping the missionaries from our church and my kids are finally asleep, I will blog. (Warning: many random thoughts to follow)
First of all, a funny note regarding the previous post. Savannah's teacher had a list up of all the Indian names for her class - her name was actually Princess Flying Sparrow. Her friend's was Princess Bluebird. Not sure if she couldn't remember Flying Sparrow or just really wished she would have chosen that. Hmmmm . . .
I will admit that part of the reason I haven't blogged much lately is because it has been a not so fun week. We are frustrated with the sale of our house and I am tired of keeping it spotless just to have no one come and see it. Don't get me wrong, I do love having a clean house, but really, that is ALL I am doing! Today we had an open house and arranged to be gone, etc., and no one came. I am thinking we may not have much luck until after Christmas. My kids are being troopers and helping with the house, and we try to do something fun when we leave for someone to come look at the house.
Another thing . . . I am embarrassed to share this but have to because I am going NUTS. I think our house is infested with mice. We have caught several over the last few weeks, and it is making me sick! My house is clean, too! But, we live near a wooded area and the temperatures are dropping. I keep trying to figure out where they are getting in, what they are eating, etc. and I am driving myself and my family crazy. We have pulled out all the stops now and if they are not gone soon, I am calling the Orkin man or whoever it takes.
Do you think this pest problem poses any issues as we have our house for sale????!!
I have always had a complete and utter fear of mice! My mom says we had a few growing up, but she must have sheltered me (or my horrible memory fails me again). The only thing I remember is that when I was about 16, I was sleeping and woke up to a strange noise in my window well, opened the blinds, and there was a mouse! AAAH! I screamed and woke up the entire family and couldn't get back to sleep. Another story some of my friends will remember: Back in my drill teams days, I was sitting in the gym of our high school during an early morning practice. Suddenly a mouse ran out from the bleachers and right in front of me - I FREAKED out. And I think those experiences must have traumatized me, because I can't stand the things. And I swear they are after me. We have our 72-hour kits out in the garage, and Ashkii just informed me that mice have been into mine, but the others looks okay. He thinks this is pretty funny, and now that most of you are probably laughing at me, please comment: what are you afraid of???
Sorry to vent, better posts to come . . .

I remember the Alta High School mouse days. We were catering the meals for the Olympic choreographers when a mouse ran across the floor. Two of the male choreographers jumped up on the table. They were both accusing each other of being more scared than the other one. It was a funny sight to behold. I thought it was a bit gross to think that there were mice in the kitchen of the high school -- that did weird me out. As for me I hate spiders. I can't join Jill J. in picking them up and putting them outside. A shoe will do just fine to exterminate them.
Don't worry, I'm not laughing--mice creep me out too!
If I had to keep my house clean, I would be in big trouble, it gets messy about 3 seconds after the boys wake up! Good luck with the sale of the house.
Hmmm, and I guess I would have to say that I'm afraid of spiders and other icky bugs. When Alan is gone and I have to kill one myself, I have to work up some serious effort and courage to do it. I'm afraid they're going to somehow jump on me! ewwww!
I am also scared of mice, but I do admit that I laughed about the mice getting into only your 72 hour kit. What luck you have! I am with mamabear and kate on the spider thing. I hate spiders and anything that crawls. I am particularly afraid of dark, big spiders. I get sick to my stomach if I see one. I usually make Jonathan kill them, if I am home alone, I most often use the vacuum.
I do not actually remember the mouse at drill practice. Too bad! I am sorry that you haven't had any luck on your house. I hope it goes better!!
I am the same way about spiders. I swear, when I kill one, all of it's friends come after me for revenge!!!
Anything over 4 legs and I'm heading for the hills. Ugh...spiders and all things creepy-crawly should've been left OFF the ark as far as I'm concerned.
Oh Brooke--I share all of your concerns. When mice or other rodents (in Seattle it's RATS) are on the loose you feel so violated. We had something in our kitchen once--I felt like I had to bleach the entire house.
I really dislike walking into spider webs--probably more than seeing the actual spider though.
i really enjoyed your post. my fear: SNAKES. when i am really stressed out, i have nightmares about them. and once, at my first internship in Lexington, KY, TWO SNAKES crawled up into our building via an old fireplace. i have never been more terrified in my life.
We could let you borrow Winston for a while. I think he has eaten every one. I am most afraid of BYU losing a football game, nothing makes me feel worse
Wook I am so sorry about your mice! Good luck with your house, that is so hard to have it on the market.
I am scared of geckos and there are a lot of them here, one day I opened the pantry and one jumped off of the cereal box at me, I freaked out and unfortunately my child was standing there and is still scarred from the whole experience.
