Boys night out for a Hockey game and a service project

My Brother got married recently and so Brooke and the girls decided to head out to UT a bit early. That left Trevor and I here in MD for a lot of father son time. We spent 7 days just hanging out and doing odd jobs around the house. My new job allows me to telework when I don't have anything pressing in the office so I was able to get up and work, take TJ to school and then pick him up every afternoon. While the girls were gone we worked hard on the honey-do list and accomplished a lot. We finished the window wells for our new basement windows, fixed the dining room light, and framed some more of our basement. We got to eat a lot of Mac and Cheese, BBQ'd Fajita's and cleared out the fridge. The best part of the week was Friday and Saturday.

On Friday night Trevor and I went to our first Hockey game. I have never been to any type of Hockey game in my life and due to Trevor's obsession with following Hockey I was well prepared with the top player statistics. During the game he would tell me random stats like how many goals each guy had for the season, how many points, what position he played etc... We scored some great tickets in the lower section of the arena so we could see everything. We arrived early ate at a great Mexican Tapas restaurant across from the Verizon center and got to see the team warm up. Trevor had a grin the size of Texas from about 3:00 pm when I picked him up from school until 11:30 when we got home. Even better was his favorite player scored twice and the team won. It was a great experience and I am looking forward to watching the playoffs. Go CAPS!!!

Well Trevor was so tired Saturday morning that I couldn't wake him up in time to make it to the Youth Service Project breakfast. Luckily by the time they were done eating and transporting all the youth to the designated area for cleanup he was finally moving. We went to a place called Thomas Point in Annapolis. It is a small peninsula that has one group campsite and some good fishing. All of the youth 14-18 in our local church spent the morning picking up trash along the beach and in the wooded areas. Trevor begged to stay longer and help clean up more after some of the older boys had had enough. It was a great day and we had a ton of fun.

I still remember from my childhood the week I spent with my dad when my mom and siblings headed to California. We joined them later but it was a memory I will always treasure and I hope Trevor feels the same way when he grows up and looks back at our week together just hanging out.
