Savannah turned FIVE last month! WOW! She is such an AMAZING part of our life. At the end of this post are the lyrics to the song "Savannna Flowers" by Bonepony, shared with us by my Uncle Kevin. I love the lyrics and the song. I am so grateful for the opportunity to raise such a special spirit sent from above - she is such a gift and a JOY. Her determination, imagination, and passion can be challenging and overwhelming sometimes, yet I am grateful she possesses such strong qualities. I know they will serve her well in this life. I love spending the days reading with her and playing store and watching her dance, jump, and grow.
As part of her celebration, she wanted to go ice skating, which we did the Saturday before her birthday. When her actual Monday birthday came, she had a great day - she must have prayed hard for snow, because school was canceled for the day AND her Dad's work was shut down because we had SO MUCH SNOW!! Okay, so it was only 6-8 inches, but that is more than enough to shut things down where we live:). So, she enjoyed a leisurely breakfast in the recliner, went sledding most of the day, then enjoyed making personal pizzas and eating chocolate piano cake. Piano cake because she wanted a DOODLEBOP party (because she found Doodlebop party hats she could print out on the Playhouse Disney website).
This is the conversation that led to the piano cake decision:
Me: What kind of cake do you want, Savannah?
S: I want a Doodlebop cake!
Me: What exactly do you mean by that?
S: I want a chocolate cake with white frosting and the Doodlebop people on top!
Me: I'm not sure I can make the Doodlebop people out of frosting . . .
S: Well, mom, just do your best!!! (with a big smile)
Hmmm . . . a few days later I (luckily) convinced her that we should make a cake that is an instrument since the Doodlebops play instruments. She was okay with that, as long as she was allowed to help make it of course! Here is a slide show from her big day:
Hey Mister Sunshine and Misses Laughter
I know the daughter your chasing after
Born with a smile that every angel knows
Savanna shows
Intrepid moon beam
Shining on my shoulder
You'll long to marry her when she gets older but
You're a lunatic faithful to the night and
She needs more light than you to grow
Oh she's a flower in the spring
Oh Savanna Flowers
And we marvel at the miracle and the beauty that revolves around her
Oh Savanna Flowers and we just watch her grow
Outside the rumble of distant thunder
Soon the rain will be falling down
Make the rivers tumble
Savanna Flowers will surely be in bloom
To brighten up each sage grass prairie heart
Cause we could use a little color inside
Oh she's a flower in the spring
Oh Savanna Flowers
And we marvel at the miracle and the beauty that revolves around her
Oh Savanna Flowers and we just watch her grow
Oh she's a flower in the spring
Oh Savanna Flowers
and we marvel at the miracle and the beauty that revolves around her
Oh Savanna Flowers and we just watch her grow

Hi Brooke! I love reading your blogs and checking in on you guys! Everyone looks great! We are in Ohio now; Christopher's completing his Master's/PhD at Kent State. We go home to VA Beach every few months-we should make a detour and see you guys sometime! You wouldn't even recognize Amber anymore:)
Wow, she's not the little toddler girl I remember. Tho she always seemed so grown up! She is such a darling and I love the words of that song. And we are huge Doodlebop fans here....funny, cause we've always felt in the minority! Hope life is well out there in MD. We miss it!
Such a sweet birthday girl and a great post!
